A SOCIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION ON MUSIC RAP AS A FORM OF COMMUNICATION

This article explores the role of lyrics in rap music and why they are used as a means of communicating in some social groups under special social conditions. The article aims to explore lyrical meaning in relation to respective rap environments and social context. Due to raw, explicit lyrical content, rap has been stigmatized and categorized as low-category music for many years. Nevertheless, the same lyrics also show the harsh reality of a given environment as well as the failures in or absence of a goverment. These factors have the power to foment the creation of new social movements. How does a subcultural phenomenon such as rap become integrated into the mainstream of mass culture, and could cross the language barriers ? What is it about rap that has captured the interest of many people across the world, even if English is not their native language? Starting in local scenes in the Bronx, rap has come to be used in adverts and performed at big concerts around the world. What meaning does it have for people, and how does it become an important part of fans’ lives? Indeed, the content of this article is trying to demostrate how essential it is for human beings to convey certain emotions through.
