COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ON UNDERGRADUATE OF FILM DESIGN AND DIRECTING PROGRAMS IN TURKEY

This paper aims to analyze the reasons for deficiencies in university and industry collaboration by conducting a comparative analysis of the curriculum of Film Design and Directing (FDD) departments at Ankara Bilim University (ABUN), Dokuz Eylül University (DEU), and Baskent University (BASKENT). The comparative analysis of FDD programs across these three universities was undertaken to identify differences and similarities. ABUN, DEU, and BASKENT were selected as representative examples for developing UIC, and their respective curricula were compared. The taxonomy method outlined in the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) Handbook 2024 was employed to compare FDD courses across the three universities. This method categorizes courses into three main areas: Professional Film Practice (PFP), Film Studies (FS), and Film Thinking (FT). Furthermore, within the context of curriculum development for university and industry collaboration, this study aimed to identify the profile of a film designer from an industry perspective. To achieve this, an analysis of job opportunities within the industrial film design profession was conducted by examining postings on major job search websites during the last three months of 2024. The findings of this study hold significant importance for all stakeholders involved, including industrial design education, the industry, and graduates, as they contribute towards meeting recruitment expectations and fostering effective university-industry collaboration in the field of film design and directing.
